Rutledge Wood says thanks to American Resto Mods for building his 1949 Chevrolet Stepvan just in time for the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour. Watch the video here!
Every year, for 19 years, Hot Rod Magazine has been organizing the Hot Rod Power Tour. Coined as a rolling tribute to the performance car, and the ultimate gearhead road trip, this year’s tour spanned 7 days roaming the Southern States. 2013 marked the third year on The Power Tour for American Resto Mods and boy was it a doozy! Read about our adventure here.
This 1949 Step Van belongs to Rutledge Wood, host of Top Gear on History. Follow along as we get this baby road worthy for the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour by dropping the aluminum body on a ’99 Chevy 2500 HD frame, transplanting in a thumping fuel injected Chevy LS engine, and popping on a rowdy sounding Magnaflow exhaust.
2013 will mark the 19th year for the Hot Rod Power Tour, and the 3rd year on the Tour for American Resto Mods. As HPRT vets, we decided to conjure up an unofficial guide to all things Power Tour. We just want to make it easy for you to find all of the info you need to make your decision to go and then to prepare for the trip. We hope you find it useful and motivational!
Follow along as this tired 1960 El Camino transforms into The American Resto Mods shop truck. This gallery documents the entire build build from start to finish.
It just so happens that one of our staff members knows Top Gear on Hostory co-host, Rutledge Wood, from back in his Varsity on North Avenue hard parking days. Don’t know what any of that means? Click hear to read and find out.
As you might remember from our previous blog post, this cruise on the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour was planned as an anniversary gift for my beautiful wife of 22 years. So, last Friday morning, with Mary as our pilot, we departed Georgia in the wee hours of the morning and headed out to Milford, MI where we would commence at the GM Proving Grounds with the rest of Power Tour.
The big cruiser now sports a 6L vortec engine and a 4L60E tranny. Along with a variety of other goodies. Click here to follow along as we get this baby ready for the 2012 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour.
In a post we made the other day about the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour coming up on June 2nd, we talked about 2 cars possibly making the trip with us. Which one will win the race to the finish?
This year I will be taking my wife of 22 years on the 2012 Hot Rod Power tour for our anniversary. Will we make it 23 years?? And whic car will be done first—the 1963 Oldsmobile dynamic 88 or the 1972 Datsun 240z?
